British actress Naomie Harris is to play Winnie Mandela the former wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela in an upcoming film and according to Harris has gotten the blessing of Mandela.
Harris has had smaller roles in movies but got a key role as Miss Moneypenny in last year’s James Bond film “Skyfall”.
The actress, who is of Jamaican parentage, but has lived in England, said she visited Mandela who was Nelson’s second wife and revealed that the black heroine who remained married to Mandela while her was in prison on Robben’s Island for 27 years was ok with her role in the upcoming flick “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”.
According to Harris the meeting was a fantastic experience in which she asked Mandela who she wished to be presented and what was the take away she wanted people to have from the movie.
Harris told Empire magazine that Mandela’s response was “’I just want the story to be told truthfully. You’ve done your research, you’ve read enough about me just make it your own.”
