Idris Elba hospitalised

British actor Idris Elba was hospitalised in the UK Saturday after he had an asthma attack while on his way to the premiere of his new movie “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom” in Johannesburg.

The star of the new film about the life of former South African president Nelson Mandela is recovering after suffering the attack on his way to the film’s premiere. The incident happened on a plane but he was taken off before the flight left the United Kingdom.

He was unable to attend a news conference surrounding the film in South Africa because of illness.

Elba stars in the movie alongside fellow British star Naomie Harris who will play Mandela’s former wife Winnie in the movie.

Harris has had roles in such movies as the James Bond flick “Skyfall” where she played Miss Moneypenny.

The film tells the story of Mandela’s imprisonment on Robben Island and his later release and election to the South African presidency. The movie premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September.

Elba moved to South Africa for three months during the filming to help him better understand the society. The film is set to be released in January next year.

The Warehouse plans fewer projects for 2014

The Warehouse Project, that series of nightclubs in Greater Manchester that has been around for the last eight years has decided to cut back on some of its projects for the upcoming year 2014.

According to the organisers of the project, which has staged winter events regularly since 2005, 2014 will feature only a “handful of special events” but the line-up will go back to its full quota of events for the following year 2015.

The Warehouse Project will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2015.

The project, which runs from September through New Year’s Eve annually, has had difficulty in 2013. In September, a partygoer died after taking some bad drugs at one of the parties which prompted organizers to undertake new drug-testing plans that were also revealed in October.

This year’s New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day events includes performances by Andy C, Tiga, Sasha, James Zabiela, Tensnake, Jamie Jones, Carl Craig, and Maceo Plex.

The New Year’s Day event will also feature several back-to-back sets with Dixon against Âme and Ben UFO against Joy Orbison in the line-up.

British star Naomie Harris to play Winnie Mandela

British actress Naomie Harris is to play Winnie Mandela the former wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela in an upcoming film and according to Harris has gotten the blessing of Mandela.

Harris has had smaller roles in movies but got a key role as Miss Moneypenny in last year’s James Bond film “Skyfall”.

The actress, who is of Jamaican parentage, but has lived in England, said she visited Mandela who was Nelson’s second wife and revealed that the black heroine who remained married to Mandela while her was in prison on Robben’s Island for 27 years was ok with her role in the upcoming flick “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”.

According to Harris the meeting was a fantastic experience in which she asked Mandela who she wished to be presented and what was the take away she wanted people to have from the movie.

Harris told Empire magazine that Mandela’s response was “’I just want the story to be told truthfully. You’ve done your research, you’ve read enough about me just make it your own.”

British actor, Idris Elba, will play Nelson Mandela in the movie which is set to be released in cinemas January 2014.
