Brits top Empire sexiest stars of 2013

British actors seem to be considered among the sexiest and “hottest” in the world. At least that’s according to Empire magazine’s online audience.

In a recent online poll of readers of the magazine to decide the 100 sexiest male and female actresses, British actors topped both lists voted on by readers. The readers selected the top 50 male and top 50 female actors

Harry Potter” star Emma Watson, who has since graduated to more adult roles in films such as “The Perks of Being A Wallflower”, is considered the sexiest female actress beating out even American favourite Scarlet Johansson.

Watson was the only British actress in the top ten with the others being American including Jennifer LawrenceKristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway,Emma Stone, Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, Angelina Jolie, and Zoe Saldanarounding out the top 10.

The male list was definitely dominated by British actors however. Leading the bunch was Benedict Cumberbatch.

He was followed by Tom Hiddleston and another Brit ”Man of Steel” star Henry Cavil.

In fourth was the Canadian Ryan Gosling followed by Robert Downey Junior, and Australian Chris Hemsworth.

“Twilight” series star England’s Robert Pattinson was sixth on the list followed by Michael Fassbender, Australian Hugh Jackman, and American Bradley cooper rounded out the top 10.

Sean Connery America’s favourite Brit

74415869BM009_Al_Pacino_RecHe is often considered the quintessential “James Bond” and now Sean Connery has proven that he also has staying power after being considered the greatest British actor of all time in a recent survey of Americans.

Connery, 83, starred in his last movie in 2003 in the film “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” came out on top of the biannual survey, a pool which looks at the most popular screen actors.

The Scotland born actor came out ahead of Sir Anthony Hopkins and Irish actor Liam Neesonwhile David McCallum of the 1960s series ”The Man from U.N.C.L.E” was fourth, three time Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis, who won this year’s Academy Award for playing American president Lincoln, was fifth while Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was 20th.

Other Bond film stars who emerged on the poll were current star Daniel Craig in eighth andDame Judi Dench in sixth. Connery has topped the list in the past in 1998 and 2003 but “House” star Hugh Laurie won the accolade in 2008.

Dench is one of only four females on the list. The others are Maggie Smith, “Frasier” star Jane Leeves, and “Bad Teacher” actress Lucy Punch.

Idris Elba hospitalised

British actor Idris Elba was hospitalised in the UK Saturday after he had an asthma attack while on his way to the premiere of his new movie “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom” in Johannesburg.

The star of the new film about the life of former South African president Nelson Mandela is recovering after suffering the attack on his way to the film’s premiere. The incident happened on a plane but he was taken off before the flight left the United Kingdom.

He was unable to attend a news conference surrounding the film in South Africa because of illness.

Elba stars in the movie alongside fellow British star Naomie Harris who will play Mandela’s former wife Winnie in the movie.

Harris has had roles in such movies as the James Bond flick “Skyfall” where she played Miss Moneypenny.

The film tells the story of Mandela’s imprisonment on Robben Island and his later release and election to the South African presidency. The movie premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September.

Elba moved to South Africa for three months during the filming to help him better understand the society. The film is set to be released in January next year.

The Warehouse plans fewer projects for 2014

The Warehouse Project, that series of nightclubs in Greater Manchester that has been around for the last eight years has decided to cut back on some of its projects for the upcoming year 2014.

According to the organisers of the project, which has staged winter events regularly since 2005, 2014 will feature only a “handful of special events” but the line-up will go back to its full quota of events for the following year 2015.

The Warehouse Project will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2015.

The project, which runs from September through New Year’s Eve annually, has had difficulty in 2013. In September, a partygoer died after taking some bad drugs at one of the parties which prompted organizers to undertake new drug-testing plans that were also revealed in October.

This year’s New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day events includes performances by Andy C, Tiga, Sasha, James Zabiela, Tensnake, Jamie Jones, Carl Craig, and Maceo Plex.

The New Year’s Day event will also feature several back-to-back sets with Dixon against Âme and Ben UFO against Joy Orbison in the line-up.

Zac Efron reunites with British girlfriend

American cinema star Zac Efron has reunited with his British girlfriend Lily Collins after the actor went into rehab.

It appears that Collins has been offering Efron support through his struggles and the flame was reignited. Efron, who starred in the High School Musical film and their sequels, has been struggling with a cocaine addiction. He stayed in a rehab facility several times and Collins was one of the persons who reached out to him in his hour of need.

The pair had split up prior to his troubles and so they never quite ended their romance. The two dated for three months in 2012 and then they ended their relationship in June. It was assumed that their relationship ended because they weren’t serious about each other.

However, now that Efron is in trouble maybe the two will find common ground once again. The two have been sighed together out in public, at the movies. It appears that Collins has competition though. Efron was also seen out with another actress, American Brittany Snow.

Tim Roth for Sepp Blatter film

British actor Tim Roth has signed up to star as the head of football’s world governing body FIFA in a new movie about Joseph Sepp Blatter.

Blatter the Swiss boss of the football body and the movie will be based on his life and will not only coincide with the FIFA World Cup Football Finals inBrazil in 2014 but also the 110th anniversary of the Geneva-based organisation.French star Gerard Depardieu will also star in the film.

The movie will be made by a French production company and will tell about the formation of FIFA in 1904 to the present day.

Roth will play Blatter while Depardieu will play the former FIFA president Jules Rimet after whom the World Cup trophy is named. Rimet was president of FIFA from 1921 to 1954.

Blatter, who is often controversial, has said he is pleased about the casting for the film and is happy about being portrayed by Roth on film.

“I had read a lot of the CV and (seen) all the realisations (films) that Tim Roth has made. I was very eager to meet him, and I have just realised that really we have something in common,” Blatter was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Filming for the movie will take place in FranceBrazil, and Azerbaijan.

Guardian’s top 10 sci-fi flicks

There are some movies that no matter how much time passes, have stuck in the mind and never go away.

These are the movies that legends are made of, the standard by which all other films are judged and they have endure throughout time.

The UK Guardian has named its list of the top 10 science fiction films of all time. Some were directed by one o the greatest film directors of all time – the American Steven Spielberg (Close Encounters of the Third Kind and ET: The Extra Terrestrial) and there are others by the British film director Stanley Kubrick(2001: A Space Odyssey) that earned a reputation for breaking down barriers in film corners.

Many of these films were made before the year 2000 which in itself perhaps speaks to the quality of contemporary film making.

The top ten in reverse order are: 10. The Matrix; 9. The Terminator/The Terminator 2:Judgment Day; 8. Close Encounters of the Third Kind; 7. Star Wars; 6. ET: The Extra Terrestrial; 5. Solaris; 4. Alien; 3. Blade Runner; 2.Metropolis; 1. 2001: A Space Odyssey.

King’s Speech top UK real life film

King George VI was one of the UK’s favourite kings and now the movie about his life is the top British real life film.

The King’s Speech, which won British actor Colin Firth the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2011, has been named the top UK real life film in a poll conducted by American Express.

The film, directed by Tom Hooper, won 28 per cent of the votes.

The 2008 movie The Boys in the Striped Pyjamas which was directed by Mark Herman was the runner up while Steven Spielberg’s 2012 film Lincoln which tells the story of the American president was third.

Mark Zuckerberg’s story The Social Network which told about the emergence of Facebook was also in the running with 127 Hours, the story of a man trapped while mountain climbing was also in the running in fifth.

The poll was conducted at the end of last week’s London Film Festival which had several real life movies making their premiere.

The top ten in that order are 1. The King’s Speech, 2. The Boys in the Striped Pyjamas, 3. Lincoln, 4. The Social Netwrok, 5. 127 Hours, 6. Argo, 7. The Impossible, 8. The Blind Side, 9. Valkyrie, 10. Zero Dark Thirty.

Pete Tong announces his new album

British born DJ Pete Tong is getting ready to release a new album. Tong, who works for BBC Radio 1 in the UK will be putting together a compiled sic of house music and classics in one disc, entitled The Pete Tong Collection.

The album will feature dance music from the last three decades with 60 of the leading tracks from that period being featured.

Tong, who hosts programmes such as Essential Mix and Essential Collection on the BBC, says that this is the right time to be releasing an album such as this.

“And remember where we were when we first heard these life-changing anthems. The music hasn’t gone away and its influences have only spread further, with the sound crossing over into almost any genre you’ll hear in 2013,” he told Resident Advisor.

Tong has his own record label FFRR Records and also performs in nightclubs and at music festivals across Europe.

The former resident of the Pacha Club in Ibiza is one of the most recognized DJ’s in Europe.

Ibiza no longer the place to party

Ibiza (read here other news) is known as the party place but these days the Spanish isle is becoming highly commercialised and over-developed. The thought is that what is happening there is untenable.

The island which sits in the Mediterranean off the coast of Valencia, Spain has seen a high influx of British tourists that has caused some damage to island’s image.

The fix to that problem was to make the island more expensive which hasn’t done much to address the real issues. High end after parties have been banned on the island but the bad behavior still permeates Ibiza.

While it’s marketed as a big spring break destination the crowds which flock there are not the “good” behaving types.

Tour packages, VIP’s, and the very rich make Ibiza their stomping ground. The new look Ibiza is not sitting well. It’s becoming a haven for the spoilt, the rich, the prostituting, and drug dealers.

Two girls have been the latest to be sent to jail for smuggling cocaine from Peru into the fair isle.

The pair call Ibiza home and claim that they were forced by an armed Spanish gang to do the dirty deed.
