Marvel Comics’ new television series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” is to be shown on the UK’s Channel 4 this autumn, not long after its premiere on USA networkABC.

S.H.I.E.L.D means “Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division”. The show will be the first live-action TV series made by Marvel which is known for such comic superheroes as The Avengers.

The series has been described as “big, bold and absolutely exhilarating” by Channel 4′s Chief Creative Officer Jay Hunt. The show was created for ABC by Joss Whedon who created other hits such as” Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Firefly”. Whedon directed 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers.

The series centres on agent Phil Coulson and his team of small and highly select fellow agents. The crew is chosen to investigate several new strange and unknown happenings around the world trying to protect them from the extraordinary occurrences.

The team’s members are highly trained in combat and martial arts, bio-chemistry, and espionage. Among the stars are British actress Elizabeth Henstridge of “Hollyoaks” fame as Agent Jemma Simmons. The rest of the cast will be mostly American actors.
