Brits top Empire sexiest stars of 2013

British actors seem to be considered among the sexiest and “hottest” in the world. At least that’s according to Empire magazine’s online audience.

In a recent online poll of readers of the magazine to decide the 100 sexiest male and female actresses, British actors topped both lists voted on by readers. The readers selected the top 50 male and top 50 female actors

“Harry Potter” star Emma Watson, who has since graduated to more adult roles in films such as “The Perks of Being A Wallflower”, is considered the sexiest female actress beating out even American favourite Scarlet Johansson.

Watson was the only British actress in the top ten with the others being American including Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway,Emma Stone, Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, Angelina Jolie, and Zoe Saldanarounding out the top 10.

The male list was definitely dominated by British actors however. Leading the bunch was Benedict Cumberbatch.

He was followed by Tom Hiddleston and another Brit ”Man of Steel” star Henry Cavil.

In fourth was the Canadian Ryan Gosling followed by Robert Downey Junior, and Australian Chris Hemsworth.

“Twilight” series star England’s Robert Pattinson was sixth on the list followed by Michael Fassbender, Australian Hugh Jackman, and American Bradley cooper rounded out the top 10.

Bigger, Better Zagreb Festival

This year’s Zagreb Music Festival set for tomorrow night in the Croatian capital promises to be so big that the organizers have to change the event to a much larger venue to accommodate the anticipated crowds. The festival will now be held at the Zagrebački Velesajam.

The Electronic Beats magazine hosted live show this year will feature performances from the group Efterklang, Fritz Kalkbrenner, Dena, and MS MR and regular tickets for the show were sold out weeks in advance.

The organisers of the festival were offering special discounted tickets to fans who were interested in attending the show.

Some highlights expected for the evening include a DENA remix by one of the favourites of the EB Festival, Coma; a preview of A/V’s 4AD’s orchestral music stars Efterklang which was sliced from the group’s fourth album Pirimida. The track is entitled “Black Summer”.

Electronic Beats has been hyping the festival all month had have previews of the song on their website.

It’s also possible to listen to a track from “Between The Walls”; a bonus track from Fritz’s latest album, as well as a new MS MR remix.

Zucchini Parmesan Crisps, thrilling vegetables

Cooking spray, about a pound of zucchini (2 medium), 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup plain dry bread crumbs, 1/8teaspoon salt, and freshly ground black pepper.

To prepare the dish first preheat an oven to 450 degrees F and coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.

Next slice the zucchini into 1/4-inch thick rounds. In another bowl toss the zucchini with oil and in a separate bowl combine the parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, salt, and pepper.

Next dip each of the slices of zucchini in the parmesan cheese mixture, ensuring that the sides are evenly coated and then lace on the baking sheet. Dip each round into the parmesan mixture, coating it evenly on both sides, pressing the coating on to stick, and place in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake the zucchini rounds until browned and crisp, 25 to 30 minutes. Remove with spatula. Serve immediately.

Algarve, warm sunny Portugal

algarveThe Algarve is a region in southern Portugal in which sits the city of Faro. It is the most popular tourist destinations in Portugal.

The region is famous for its pottery and ceramics and it’s possible to buy tiles and other such throughout the region.

Interesting sites in the Algarve include the city of Lagos, the Vila do Bispo, Marinha Beach which is famous for its rock formations, Armacao de Pera, Ria Formosa lagoon, and the spa town of Caldas de Monchique.

The area is famous for religious tourism having once been conquered by the Muslim Moors of Northern Africa.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Piety and Our Lady Mother of Goodness near Sao Marcos da Serra are religious experiences in Algarve.

The Algarve is known for its fish and other seafood as well as fruit, oranges, figs, and almonds. Portuguese seafood stew or cataplana, bacalhao com natas, and creamy cod are specialties.

Places in the Algarve to try these dishes include the A Rampa in the town of Estrada do Foia, Monchique. The menu includes chicken piri-piri; the Adega Vilalisa which is in Mexilhoeira Grande. There the dishes include a broth of cockles, octopus roasted with potatoes, lamb stewed with fresh peas and chickpea soup.

Sean Connery America’s favourite Brit

Connery, 83, starred in his last movie in 2003 in the film “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” came out on top of the biannual Q survey, a pool which looks at the most popular screen actors.

The Scotland born actor came out ahead of Sir Anthony Hopkins and Irish actor Liam Neesonwhile David McCallum of the 1960s series ”The Man from U.N.C.L.E” was fourth, three time Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis, who won this year’s Academy Award for playing American president Lincoln, was fifth while Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was 20th.

Other Bond film stars who emerged on the poll were current star Daniel Craig in eighth andDame Judi Dench in sixth. Connery has topped the list in the past in 1998 and 2003 but “House” star Hugh Laurie won the accolade in 2008.

Dench is one of only four females on the list. The others are Maggie Smith, “Frasier” star Jane Leeves, and “Bad Teacher” actress Lucy Punch.

Fanu ends his musical career

FanuThe Finnish producer Janne Hatula, better known to the electronic music crowd as Fanu is to bring an end to his alter ego at the end of this year when he releases his final album entitled Departure on December 2nd.

Fanu, described as a “man of many beats”, began his dance music career in the 2000s and had tracks on labels such as Ohm Resistance, Subtitles, and Commercial Suicide. He also has his own label known as Lightless Recordings on which this latest and last album will be released. The album will be his fifth.

According to Fanu, he had great difficulty earning money under his musical alter ego and has also struggled to get jobs and earn money. He will start new projects under a new name soon in hopes of better results.

The new album will feature arrange of sounds including drum funk, choppage, down tempo and techno.

The track list includes Drumsö Fuzz, Street Sermon, Hop And Bass, Ranch Dance, To Blessed To Be Stressed, Holograms, Waxcavation, The Unconscious, Dirt, Like This Girl I Once Knew, and Pääteasema.

Kir Royale, champagne delight

The Kir Royale is a French cocktail that is made of crème de cassis or the juice of a blackcurrant and then topped with champagne. It is a deviation from the other cocktail Kir which is blackcurrant topped with white wine.

The cocktail is often had before a meal or snack as an aperitif. The drink was named after a Felix Kir who was a former mayor of the city of Burgundy in France.

Variations on the Kir Royale include the Cider Royale which is made with cider instead of wine, Communard which is made with red instead of white wine, the Hibiscus Royale which is made with sparkling wine and peach and raspberry liqueur and a hibiscus and Kir Pamplemousse which is made with red grapefruit juice instead of black currant.

To make the Kir Royal you will need 4 tablespoons of Chambord, ¼ cups fresh raspberries, and 1 bottle of French champagne, chilled.

Place the 4 champagne flutes in a freezer for 15 minutes and remove and add 1 tablespoon of Chambord to each flute. Add a few raspberries and top with champagne. Serve while chilled.

Capri, island in the sun

The island has been around as a resort since the days of the Roman Republic and some of its outstanding features include the Marina Piccola, the Belvedere of Tragara, the Faraglioni, the town of Anacapri, the Blue Grotto, and the ruins of the Imperial Roman villas.

Other places to visit include the Punta Carena Lighthouse, Capri Philosophical Park, Torre Materita, and La Piazzetta. The island was once a haven for European artists who used its beauty as a backdrop for their artwork.

The island hosts several events annual such as the Capri Film Festival, and the Capri International Film Festival, the Capri Tango Festival, and the Capri Golf Marathon. Capri is a good place to visit for natural flora and fauna of the island.

Pasta and seafood are also an important part of the cuisine of the island and some places to try include the Add’o Riccio which serves seafood and fish, Buca di Bacco da Serafina, Dagemma, and Da Paolina.

Athens is the capital of Greece in southern Europe and is known as the birthplace of modern Europe. It is one of the oldest cities in the world and is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

These are the Acropolis and the Daphni Monastery. Athens is the home of the original Olympians and was the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games in 1896.

Athens is so full of history that there are numerous sites that are worthy of visiting. Some of the more prominent ones include the Acropolis, Hellenic Parliament, Acropolis Museum, andMonastiraki Square, the Temple of Hephaestus, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Agora, and theNational Archaeological Museum.

Athens has more theatrical stages than any other city in the world and the Athens Festival is staged there annually.

Greek food is very important to the culture of the city and seafood is special to the isles. Among the specialties are the Horiatiki Salad, Lamb, Yogurt, Capari Salata or caper salad, Olives, and eggplant salad.

Among the places to try Greek cuisine in Athens are the Makalo, Melilotos, To Kati Anno, and Klimatario.
