Chicken pot pie, one pot delight

pot pie is baked savoury dish encased in a flaky pastry and baked in a pie tin to ensure it maintains its shape. There are several varieties including an Australian meat pie and various British regional types. In America, the pot pie can be filled with various types of meat including beefchicken, or turkey as well as vegetables such as carrotspotatoes, and green peas.

The chicken pot pie may be the most popular and is simple to make. The ingredients are 1 poundskinless, boneless chicken breast, cubed, 1 cupsliced carrots, 1 cupgreen peas,1/2 cupsliced celery,1/3 cupbutter,1/3 cuponion chopped, 1/3 cupall-purpose flour,1/2 teaspoonsalt,1/4 teaspoonblack pepper,1 3/4 cupschicken broth, and 2/3 cupmilk.

First preheat an oven to 425 degrees F. Then in a saucepan combine the carrots, chicken, peas, and celery, add water and cook for 15 minute then drain.

In a separate pan over a medium flame cook onions and butter add flour, salt, and pepper. Slowly add the broth and milk and cook until thick. Put the mixture in a pie crust then cover with the liquid, add the top pie crust and make a few slits in the top. Bake for between 30 and 35 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.

Salzburg, music’s birthplace

Salzburg is the fourth largest city in Austria set high in the Alps with an old town renowned for its baroque architecture. The city, which is also known as the birthplace of the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1997 and was also site of the famous movie musical “The Sound of Music”.

Salzburg boasts many churches and cathedrals in Romanesque and gothicstyles among them the Nonnberg in St. Peter’s Cemetery and the St. George’s Chapel. The city sits on the banks of a river and many of the sites which were used in the movie as well as Mozart’s old house are tourist attractions.

Other places to visit include the historic city centre with its narrow cobblestone streets, theHohensalzburg Castle which is one of the largest in EuropeSalzburg Cathedral, theResidenzgalerie art museum, the Mirabell Palace and Gardens, and Hangar-7, a building owned by Red Bull which hosts a collection of historical planes, helicopters, and Formula Onerace cars.

Salzburg is served by an international airport as well as railways with connections from Munich,ViennaInnsbruck, and Zurich. Food is also important and there are a number of roadside pastries where one can buy Austrian delights such as Wiener schnitzel and apple strudel.

Star Wars Episode 7 looks to the British

he rumour mill has been swirling around reports that British stars Alex Pettyfer, Rachel Hurd-Wood, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers have been cast in the upcoming film “Star Wars Episode 7”.

The plot rumour suggests that the film will focus on the lives of 17-year-old twins who are trained by their uncle to be Jedis. Pettyfer has been rumoured to have read for the role of Luke Skywalker’s son while Hurd-Wood is said to have read for the role of Princess Leia’s daughter.

Twenty-three year old Pettyfer has starred in such films as “I Am Number Four”, the American movie “Beastly”, “Magic Mike” and “The Butler”. Hurd-Wood, 23, played the role of Wendy in the 2003 movie version of “Peter Pan” and also starred in “An American Haunting” as well as the 2010 film “Hideaways”.

Star Wars Episode 7, due for release in 2015 is to be directed by J.J. Abrams and Disney has confirmed that John Williams will compose the score. Williams has composed scores for such hits as “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Jurassic Park”.

According to the British Sun newspaper the movie is to be filmed in Scotland while there are other rumours that it is to be filmed at London’s Pinewood Studios as well as in Ireland.

Slices ready to release Issue #2

Slices will release its second DVD with Issue 3-13 this month. The cover features the “Howling hit-makers Frank Wiedemann and Australian singer-songwriter Ry X. The duo combines folk and electronic music in a way that has struck real gold.

The pair will talk about their rise to fame starting with the Melt! festival and the Innervisionstudio in Berlin, Germany.

The Slices team also spent some time in Oslo, Norway talking to Andre Bratten about his Modular system and the producer’s impressive studio which has is full of analog equipment. That is where he produced his debut “Be A Man You Ant” which was released in 2013 on the “Full Pupp” label. Bratten provides a guided tour and also talks about the other factors that influenced his sound “suburban ennui”.

In The Car” features former Berghain resident Ben Klock. The influential techno producer will show the Slices team around his home and discuss the city’s history and how it helped his music along the way.

The team also attended the Fete de La Musique in Berlin’s Mauerpark whereSchlachthofbronx performed their mix of Cumbia,Bailefunk, raggadancehall, klezmer,soca, kuduro, and Bavarian sounds.

Other DVD features include “Tech Talk”, “New Faces”, and “Club Special”. There is also a bonus featuring live performances by “Chilly Gonzales”, “Roosevelt”, and “Rangleklods”.

Pasta primavera

Pasta primavera is a dish made from pasta and fresh vegetables. Sometimes chicken is added but the meal is usually vegetables only. Ingredients such as broccoli, carrots, peas, onions, and green bell peppers, and tomatoes can be used. The pasta used can be bowtie or penne.

To make pasta primavera you will need 3 carrots, peeled and cut into thin strips, 2 medium zucchini, cut into thin strips, 2 yellow squash, cut into thin strips, 1 onion, thinly sliced, 1 yellow bell pepper, cut into thin strips, 1 red bell pepper, cut into thin strips, 1/4 cup olive oil, salt and freshly ground black pepper, 1 tablespoon dried Italian herbs, 1 pound bowtie pasta, 15 cherry tomatoes, halved, and 1/2 cup grated Parmesan.

Next preheat an oven to 450 degrees F and on a large heavy baking sheet, toss all the vegetables with oil, salt, pepper, and herbs.

Put half of the vegetable mixture onto a large baking sheet and arrange evenly. Bake until the carrots are tender and the vegetables begin to brown, stirring after the first 10 minutes.

Cook the pasta in a separate bowl of water until al dente for about 8 minutes. Next toss the pasta with the vegetables in a large bowl and combine.

Add the cherry tomatoes and enough of the left over cooking water to moisten. Season the pasta with salt and pepper, to taste. Sprinkle with the Parmesan and serve immediately.

Crete, ancient isle

Crete is an island in the Mediterranean Sea and is the fifth largest of the Greek isles forming a large part of the country’s economy.

It is the centre of the Minoan civilisation which is known as the oldest in Europe and as such history is a big part of the island’s culture. It has also retained some of its own culture such as great poetry and music. The country’s name first appeared in Homer’s Odyssey.

The island is quite mountainous with a high range running from east to west while there are also great valleys including the Amari Valley. The climate is primarily temperate with a humid atmosphere and mild winters.

Among the things to do and places to visit in Crete is the Aquaworld Aquarium. Sea life is big in Crete which is an island and therefore surrounded by water. There are several species specific to the island such as crustaceans (crabs).

Equine life is also important and there are several stables including the Arion Stables that can be visited. See also the Lychnostatis Open Air Museum and the Balos Lagoon.

There are over 2000 restaurants on the island with over 1300 serving native Greek cuisine.

Among the lower range are the Spyros Taverna in Gouves and The Alchemist in Koutouloufari. On the higher end are the Kapetan Dimitris and Lotus Eaters. The island has two main international airports as well as a ferry service with transport to Athens on mainland Greece.

Downton Abbey Returns

Fans of the popular English drama “Downton Abbey” will be thrilled when the series opens Season 4 this weekend.

A Season 4 trailer 10-seconds long has been released featuring the voice of Dame Maggie Smith (who plays the Dowager Countess Violet Crawley in the popular drama) speaking as one of the doors in Downton Abbey opens.

Smith is assumed to be speaking to Lady Mary telling her that she has a choice between life and death.

Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary in the drama, is pleased that the new season will find her with several new love interests following the death last season of her husband, Matthew Crawley-played by Dan Stevens.

Lady Mary will be struggling this season to raise her baby son as a single mother.

Downton Abbey has been critically acclaimed since it first premiered on ITV in 2010. It has won a Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or Television Film as well as a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie.

The series is also showed in the USA on PBS as part of the Masterpiece TV. Downton Abbey is set at the titled fictional country house in Yorkshire and follows the lives of the Crawley family and their servants.

House music by System of Survival

House music is pretty popular in Europe and one of the longest running pairings System of Survival is over 20 years old. The pair of Alex Carpentieri and Pietro de Lisi has been working together since 1989. The duo is so close, they even live together and they say the secret of their success is keeping it real.

“Our system is to be true. To be real. Enjoy our job, be professional and avoid all bullshit. That’s the only way to survive,” the duo said during an interview with “ibiza-voice”. The DJ’shave been working on a new album which they expect to release some time next year.

The album will feature some collaborations but the pair are keeping tight-lipped on exactly what those will be. According to System of Survival, who recently signed up with Safehouse agency, they never prepare a playlist for their gigs and because of their eclectic music tastes and mental connection.

The group’s last album “Needle & Thread” was released in 2012 and a year later are still pleased with it. The pair said the music is their roots not club music and are pleased that their fans understand it. System of Survival has been playing around in 2013 travelling toSouth America where they played on the beaches of Peru.

Paella, Spanish delight

Paella is the dish associated with Spain. This combination of rice and seafood or meat and vegetables such as green peas is seen outside of Spain as the country’s national dish but is really a regional speciality from Valencia.

To make a paella gather 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of paprika, 2 tablespoons of oregano, salt and black pepper, 2 pounds of skinless chicken breasts cut into small pieces, 3 cloves of garlic, 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, 2 cups uncooked short-grain rice, 1 pinch saffron, 1 bay leaf, 1 quart of chicken stock, 1 Spanish onion, 1 red bell pepper, 1 pound chorizo sausage, and 1 pound deveined shrimp.

First: season chicken with olive oil, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Then heat olive oil in a large skillet, add garlic, red pepper, and rice and stir for 3 minutes. Add the saffron, bay leaf, chicken stock and lemon. Lower heat and allow the mixture to simmer for about 20 minutes.

In another, skillet heat oil then add chicken and onion and cook for a few minutes; add bell pepper, sausage, and shrimp, turning the shrimp until both sides are pink. Decorate paella with shrimp. Paella is best enjoyed served warm.

Monaco, mountain state

The principality of Monaco is a city state on the French Riviera bordering France and theMediterranean Sea. Monaco is the second smallest but the most densely populated country in the world.

The country is very mountainous and rocky and the highest point sits on the slopes of Mont Agel. Its most popular quartier is Monte Carlo and the Monte Carlo Casino is one of the most famous landmarks not only in the country, but in the world. It is possible to eat at restaurants and cafes just outside of the Casino.

Monaco is quite small and it is possible to walk through the entire country in less than one hour.

There are very high-end shops. The city is served by a heliport with connections to the Cote d’AzurInternational Airport in Nice and SNCF railway system makes it possible to take a train into nearby France.

The Grimaldi Palace in Fontvielle is a good place to visit and from there it is possible to see the Monaco harbour. There are numerous sidewalk cafes and gift shops to purchase souvenirs in this quartier.

Sport is very popular in Monaco which is home of the track and field governing body the IAAF and the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix, the Monte Carlo Rally, and the Monaco football team. A track and field meeting is held at theStade Louis II stadium in Monaco every year.
