Budapest is one of the oldest and largest cities in Europe and is the capital of Hungary. It was formed from the combination of two former cities – Buda and Pest which lie on both banks of the Danube River.

The city was once the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire which was dissolved after World War I and has since been ranked the .second best city to live in by Conde Nast Traveler.

Several UNESCO World Heritage Sites lie in the city including the banks of the Danube River itself, the Buda Castle, Andrassy Avenue, and Heroes Square.

Other sites in the city include the second largest synagogue in the world, an underground system of thermal springs, Gresham Palace, and the Aquincum Museum which is a relic of Roman times.

The city boasts the second oldest underground railway system in the world behind that of London.

Hungarian cuisine relies heavily on meats and stews with goulash being a staple of the diet. Paprika and pork and casseroles are also important to the diet.

Places in which you can enjoy Hungarian cuisine include Gerbeaud Café, and the Százéves, Biarritz, Fortuna, Alabárdos, Arany Szarvas, Kárpátia as well as the world famous Mátyás Pince Restaurants.

Central Europe’s biggest things in Music

Central Europe, in countries such as HungarySlovakia, and Poland, is really getting into its own in the house and electronic music arena.

In Budapest, Hungary some of the more intriguing sounds include those by Imre Kiss – who happens to hail from Slovakia- Asio Otus and Stanley Maneuver.

Also making their mark is the Farbwechsel crew which plays at almost every party in the city. The crew has also been a major backer of the musicians that have made a name throughout the city’s underground within the last few years.

Poland boasts some of the most unique and diverse music in Central and Eastern Europe.

Sangoplasmo is one of the big electronic music labels from out of the largest country in central Europe.

One of the names that have emerged from the Polish label is Lubomir Grzelak who performs under the alias Lutto Lento.

Wroclaw resident Lento, who has been described as a “lone ranger” has mixes that include remixes of tracks from Irish artist Enya as well as other samples.

AranosFolja, and Tidal are a few of the others on the Sangoplasmo label.

Zagreb Festival coming up

The Electronic Beats Fall Festival continues with some magnificent stops this year in places such as BudapestHungaryDresdenGermanyVienna,Austria, and PodgoricaMontenegro.

The festival stops in the Croatian capital city of Zagreb on November 8 with four of the biggest names in electro beat music. The festival will be staged atBoogaloo in Zagreb. The Danish group Efterklang, who released the LP Piramada last year, will headline the night’s events with their orchestral pop music.

Also on the line up will be German Deep House DJ and Producer Fritz Kalkbrenner from out of Berlin. Fritz is brother to Paul and he will bring with him a blend of soul, hip-hop, and techno music.

The brothers worked on the music for the film “Berlin Calling” back in 2008. His last single releases were Little by Little and Get A Life from 2012.

The up-and-coming Dena also performs and comes highly recommended with an older groove with a mix of 90’s beat R&B and a more modern groove.

The final act planned for the evening is MS MR from New York City. Electronic Beats stages a series of live concerts, club nights, and festivals across Europe.
