That old dinosaur flick, “Jurassic Park“, has finally hit the $1 billion in earnings mark. The Steven Spielberg-directed movie celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2013 with a 3D re-release. The Universal Studios release earned $6.3 million in China, opening in 2,500 locations. In 2012, “Titanic” 3D grossed $11.2 million on its opening weekend and made $150.2 million during its run.
The movie’s opening in China was the fourth-biggest in that country this year.”Iron Man 3” made $19.1 million its first day. There was an exclusive cut for Chinese audiences. The 3D version of “Jurassic Park” is said to have grossed $65 million since it was released in the US in April. It had grossed $970 million worldwide in 1993 when it was first released.
That was a record as the highest-grossing film of all time until 1997’s “Titanic”. The film had two sequels. In 1997, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” and in 2001 “Jurassic Park III” were made. Spielberg did not direct the third film. “Jurassic Park” starred British director Sir Richard Attenborough, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern.
